My husband went through exactly the same thing last year, and I was there every step of the way, so I can share quite a bit of detail. We live in Surry, but we went to Denturists in Chilliwack, BC because there are several good practices there, and most importantly, the approach was much more human. It was more important to us that it was high quality, not “two steps away.” We started by simply going to the initial consultation at Chilliwack Denture Clinic on Mary Street. My husband, like you, was a little worried: “What if it hurts,” “what if it doesn’t fit,” “what if I can’t speak normally at all.” We were really pleasantly surprised at the consultation — they talked to us not like patients “on a conveyor belt,” but like people who had a lot of fears and questions. The first appointment lasted over an hour: a full examination, questions about his lifestyle, even about how he sleeps and what he eats. I have never seen such an approach anywhere before. Then we went through the stages. First, they made temporary dentures - this is very important to understand how the jaw adapts. Then he wore them for two weeks, during which there were two adjustments. Only then - when everything settled down - did they make permanent ones. And I will say honestly: they fit like a glove. My husband eats nuts, apples, meat - everything that he had previously avoided. He has never complained about chafing. Even his speech has not changed, which is surprising. I thought there would be some hissing or deafness, as often happens.

Interesting topic! I am in the process of choosing a clinic for my mother, she is 74. We are also considering denturists in Chilliwack, BC, because we heard that local specialists are often more attentive to elderly patients. I am glad that I read your reviews - it helps to build a realistic idea of what to expect.
